Software licensing
Generally, when a software program is purchased, it comes with a licence in the form of a document that authorises the use of the software. This document forms part of an agreement with the purchaser that the software will only be used on one computer. For additional computers to use the same program additional copies of the software or additional licences would need to be purchased from the supplier of the software program.

In this way, the suppliers of the software programs protect themselves against individuals making unauthorised (pirate) copies of the software program. This license is referred to as copyright protection.

It is common for the installation process of software programs to include a terms & conditions of use page that the installer must agree to before completing the installation.
